Photo Exhibition: Boris Németh – Europe

On Thursday, 26 April 2018, we opened the photo exhibition “Europe” by award-winning documentary photographer Boris Németh in the Gallery of the SLOVAK PRESS PHOTO Foundation in Bratislava.

The photo series Europe offers the author´s unique view of the countries of Europe. He focuses on the subtle bizarre things that distort our ideas about ourselves and about the world around us. “Today, after almost thirty years, we are part of the great Europe and feel at home here. Just get in the car and go. However, just like Austrians were afraid of us at that time, we are now afraid of newcomers. And we call for new borders, for iron curtains to close ourselves against the foreign danger threatening us, Europeans,” said Boris Németh about the exhibition.

Boris Németh (1979) studied photography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava, having completed his PhD studies in 2011. He currently works as external lecturer of reportage photography at the Academy.

His works have been shown at solo and collective exhibitions in the Czech Republic, France, the US, Mexico, Austria, Hungary, Germany, Italy, Greece, Poland, Serbia, Belarus, etc., and are part of the collections of the Slovak National Gallery, the Central European House of Photography and VÚB Foundation. Since 2006, he has worked as photojournalist at .týždeň magazine.

He is the author of several photographic books and the holder of many awards for photography, such as World Press photo nomination – Joop Swart Masterclass (2009), Photographer of the Year 2011, Czech Press Photo (2009, 2011), Best of Photojournalism (2013, 2017), Slovak Press Photo (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017), or Prize of the Open Society Foundation (2015, 2017).

The exhibition is on view till 18 May 2018.
