SLOVAK PRESS PHOTO 2024 in New York

The SLOVAK PRESS PHOTO 2024 exhibition is officially open at the gallery of the Consulate General of Slovakia in New York City – right in the heart of Manhattan. We are incredibly proud and grateful to have brought the winning photographs and powerful visual stories from Hviezdoslav Square in Bratislava across the ocean to a new audience in the U.S.

Each photograph is accompanied by a QR code, allowing visitors to dive deeper into the authors' stories, view full series, and learn more about their work. The public response has been enthusiastic – visitors were deeply moved and inspired by the stories told through the images.

At the opening, our director Jana Garvoldtová was honored by Bruce Cotler with a commemorative plaque, marking her induction as a member of the New York Press Photographers Association – a proud moment of recognition for Slovak documentary photography.

During the opening and in the days that followed, we had the chance to connect with many new people – photographers, editors, curators, and representatives. We believe that these new connections may lead to future collaborations, opening new doors for Slovak and V4 countries photographers. We were also happy to reconnect with our longtime friends living in the U.S., including Nina Berman, Oto Racek, and others.

The exhibition is open to the public until April 25, 2025, with public tours held every Thursday at the Consulate General.

We sincerely thank everyone who helped bring this exhibition to life – from logistics and travel to printing, installation, and the opening. Special thanks to the Consulate General of Slovakia, Milan Vrbovský, Marcus Gurega, Paul Martinka and his family, Nataša Bošková, Radovan Stoklasa, and all our collaborators.
Our gratitude also goes to Mercedes-Benz Panonská for supporting our journey to New York.

Congratulations to all exhibiting photographers – and stay tuned for more images and stories from our unforgettable journey overseas.
