About the contest

SLOVAK PRESS PHOTO is a contest and a subsequent photo exhibition presenting an independent and authentic visual testimony of life, as seen by journalists from Slovakia and Eastern Europe. The aim of the contest and of the exhibition is to allow the public to become the eye-witness of past year´s events and phenomena. This year, authors can apply for ten photographic categories and the international Short Video category.
The aim of the competition is to raise the level of Slovak visual journalism as an important communication medium and visual art; to support, promote and motivate photojournalists in Slovakia; to create a platform for the confrontation of works of Slovak authors and authors from nearby countries; and to support the work of young photographers and students. In the Short Video international category, we would like to inspire confrontation and aspiration for qualitative growth among authors creating short spot news, documentaries and short stories with the potential to be published in audio-visual media.

SLOVAK PRESS PHOTO and the Capital City of the Slovak Republic Bratislava invite photographers, journalists and video-makers from the Slovak Republic and nearby countries to participate in the 6th edition of the SLOVAK PRESS PHOTO contest, organised under the auspices of Mr. Andrej Kiska, President of the Slovak Republic, Marek Maďarič, Minister of Culture of the Slovak Republic, and Ivo Nesrovnal, Mayor of the Capital City of the Slovak Republic Bratislava.

The Grand Prix winner will be awarded the glass sculpture by Palo Macho. The prizes for winning photographs in specific categories will be given by the media partners and project partners. The winning photographs will be published in the catalogue and presented at the exhibition after the results announcement. The winning videos will be published on our website and screened along the photographic exhibition in the exhibition premises.
