Exhibition: Jindřich Štreit – The Joys and Sorrows of Life

You are kindly invited to the opening of the photo exhibition The Joys and Sorrows of Life by Czech documentary photographer Jindřich Štreit. The event will take place at the Gallery of the SLOVAK PRESS PHOTO Foundation on June 27, 2019 at 18.00 o’clock.

In the exhibited documentary cycle, Jindřich Štreit sought to capture the gradual changes in the traditional culture of housing and life of the Roma community in the context of the Salvation Army´s activities in Roma settlements in Slovakia. This organisation, which conducts its work under the slogan “Soap, soup, salvation”, contributes to people’s spiritual and religious cultivation and offers a helping hand to all those who need it in terms of material security.

Prof. Mgr. Jindřich Štreit is a Czech photographer, university pedagogue, curator, and organiser of cultural life. In his work, he covers life in villages and people living in the Czech countryside. He has so far produced over 1,400 solo exhibitions and is the author of more than 30 publications. His works form an integral part of the most significant collections. Several films have been produced on Jindřich Štreit. At present, he teaches at the Institute of Creative Photography in Opava, Czech Republic.
